Peta Odini at Portugal Fashion Week
On March 18th, 2022, Vincentian clothing brand Peta Odini, debuted their new collection “Slow Boat” at the 50th edition of Portugal Fashion Week in Porto.
The collection featured a signature “Slow Boat” print designed by Peta Odini Sutherland for her namesake brand. The collection featured twenty menswear looks, and included collaborative pieces from other Vincentian brands, Fashion is Payne and Handmade by Kate. The looks were showcased as part of the Portugal Fashion Week Main Runway presentation and was made possible through the support of the Creative African Nexus (CANEX) and the African Export Import Bank (AFREXIMBANK), who are currently working in conjunction with the Lulubell Group and Portugal Fashion Week to take African designers to international markets.
For the March 2022 iteration, Peta Odini became the first Caribbean brand to be selected to show under the CANEX umbrella which hosted its first cohort of African designers in Portugal in October 2021. The CANEX organisers indicated that this was the first step of incorporating designers and makers from within the African Diaspora into their three-year development programme.
As part of the CANEX x Portugal Fashion Week initiative, the selected designers also engaged in factory and industry visits along with seminars and business talks and will also be involved in a mentorship programme with international industry professionals.
